Welcome to the Department of Physics at the Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU). SKKU is a national university with over 620 years of glorious history and shining tradition. The university has led the development of higher education in Korea by Challenging and innovating with the mind of sharing and coexistence. We will make a leap forward to become a Global Leading University and contribute towards the prosperity and development of the humanity along with other prestigious universities in the world.

 

Faculty members in the Department of Physics are passionately pursuing leading-edge research, student mentoring and teaching innovation, and engagement with the international scientific and local communities. Our research strategy has focused on developing strengths in several research areas, including nuclear, particle, and astrophysis, statistical and condensed-matter physics, nano- and bio-physics. The department has established long-term development plan to recruit world-class professors, expand reseach facilities, and to improve education services. We are also putting more and more focus on the international exchange programs in education and research to enhance visibility of the department. Physics research in SKKU is well-known to be very strong, which is well recognized by international panel of experts during the most recent Research Assessment Exercise commissioned by Brain Korea 21 Fostering Outstanding Universities for Research Grants Council. Broader impact is also achieved through involvement in university-wide interdisciplinary initiatives such as brain imaging, sustainability and energy-relate research. It is gratifying that our dedication to build up strengths in research to a high international standard. The Department likewise aims to inspire the next generation of scientists and leaders in other fields by offering excellent educational opportunities at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Programs, courses, overseas academic exchange and overseas research exchange opportunities are offered that cater to students diverse interests and needs. We are sure that you will enjou your time at SKKU and take advantage of the many opportunities that you will have to develop intellectually and personally. We are looking for those highly self-motivated and dedicated students with a great passion in understanding nature and challenging yet unsolved problems in science and engineering.
