Title: The Final Result from the Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermilab:
The World’s Most Precise Measurement of the Muon Magnetic Anomaly
Abstract: The Muon g-2 experiment at Fermilab has achieved the most precise measurement of the positive muon’s magnetic anomaly to date, reaching unprecedented precision and surpassing the initial target of 140 parts per billion (ppb)—nearly four times better than the previous measurement at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the early 2000s. Data collection spanned from 2018 through June 2023, with the first set of results published in April 2021 (based on the 2018 dataset) and the second released in October 2023 (using data from 2019–2020). The final and largest dataset, collected between 2021 and 2023, has now been fully analyzed. In this talk, we will provide an overview of the experiment’s history, measurement principles, and experimental methodologies. We will discuss crucial systematic studies, highlight major operational achievements, and describe significant improvements implemented in the latest analysis. Finally, we will present the definitive result for the measurement of the positive muon’s magnetic anomaly, achieving the highest precision ever reported.
