In order for superconductors to be utilized in electrical devices, they must be manufactured into wires that are both lengthy and possess a uniform cross-sectional shape. The discovery in 1986 of so-called high Tc oxide superconductors, which have a critical temperature above 77 K (the boiling point of liquid nitrogen), prompted the expectation that they could be utilized in cost-effective applications such as power equipment. However, the intrinsic properties of oxides render them susceptible to low mechanical strength, with performance exhibiting significant fluctuations contingent on crystallinity. This renders the fabrication of long lengths, exceeding several hundred meters, a formidable challenge.
This presentation will examine the evolution of the process of manufacturing wire rods using oxide superconductors, as well as the distinctions between the first and second generations of these wire rods. Furthermore, the processes employed by companies that manufacture and supply second-generation wire rods will be examined, along with an analysis of the characteristics of the wire rods they produce. And various kinds of industrial applications such as SFCL(superconducting fault current limiter), high capacity electric cable( > 1GVA), ultra-high field magnet(>25 T) will be introduced based on this thin film wire technology.
