The origin of high-energy cosmic rays remains one of the most enduring mysteries in astrophysics. Neutrinos produced in cosmic-ray interactions provide a unique window into particle acceleration processes in extreme astrophysical environments. Unlike charged cosmic rays, neutrinos travel virtually unaffected by magnetic fields and can therefore point back to their sources.
The discovery of a diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux by IceCube in 2013 marked the beginning of the era of TeV-PeV neutrino astronomy. Since then, IceCube has reported evidence of neutrino emission from the BL Lac-type blazar TXS 0506+056 and the Seyfert II galaxy NGC 1068, as well as an excess of neutrinos originating from the Galactic Plane of the Milky Way.
In this talk, I will review the current status of searches for high-energy astrophysical neutrino sources with IceCube and highlight recent results obtained through analyses that combine multiple neutrino detection channels. These observations are providing new insights into the origin of cosmic rays and the nature of the most extreme particle accelerators in the Universe. I will also discuss the future of the field as neutrino astronomy expands into a global network of observatories, including emerging efforts to build next-generation neutrino telescopes in the Pacific Ocean.
